Consultation on local health care - the way is paved for more cuts

In response to yet another consultation concerning Health Care in Staffordshire, we are once again calling for re-instatement of a full 24 hour A&E department at Stafford Hospital. We also want to see re-instatement of all the services axed from the hospital over the last decade and protection of Health Services across Staffordshire from further cuts.

Help us in Opposing The Next Round of Cuts

Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent residents have been invited to have their say on the future of local health and care. The NHS and local councils have launched a public conversation on health and social care services. This 'consultation' starts with a series of listening events but there are no more tickets left for the event in Stafford on Thursday 6th of June.

Join our Demonstration

We are organising a demonstration for people to attend who are not able to get in. We will call for an end to the cuts to our NHS services, particularly at Stafford Hospital. If we don't act now, there is a very real risk that continuing cuts will see Stafford Hospital closed in less than a decade.

The listening event is at Entrust, Riverway Centre, Riverway, Stafford, ST16 3TH on Thursday 6 June at 7pm-9.30pm with (registration from 6.30pm).

We will congregate on the footway along the main road in front of the Riverway Centre from 6.30pm.

Please come and join us.

Sign the Petition

In order to make doubley sure our voice is heard in opposition to any further cuts to services at Stafford Hospital, we have setup a change.org petition which you can sign here.

Further Information

One of the areas the consultation is exploring is "Simplifying the local urgent and emergency care system"

We suspect this will mean the closure of A&E at either Stafford or Burton Hospital. We also anticipate more in-patient services being moved out into the community.

In recent years, Stafford Hospital (County Hospital) has lost a wide range of services, including:

  • 24 Hour A&E
  • Children's A&E
  • Outreach (emergency crash team)
  • Consultant-led Maternity Services
  • Children's Inpatient Services
  • Emergency Surgery
  • High Dependency Unit
  • Reduction in haematology beds
  • Oncology
  • Ophthalmology Outpatient Clinic
  • Obstetrics

This is by no means an exhaustive list. A little over 10 years ago, Stafford Hospital had over 350 beds. Today that total stands at less than 200. That is a reduction of over 40%. Just how many beds will we have left in 2028?
